About the Department
This department studies applied research that can be used in various industries such as health, medical, food, environment, agriculture, water, livestock, cosmetics, bioenergy, and bioinformatics using the results of basic research in the life sciences. Recently, the department is developing into a major with the addition of synthetic biology, a course centered on the Fourth Industrial Revolution that utilizes genetic information in conjunction with electricity, electronics, machinery, chemistry, computer science, and information processing technology.

Major Course Guide
Year 1 │ BioIntroduction
Students acquire basic theories to understand electrical circuits and develop problem-solving skills and application skills This course provides the fundamental knowledge needed to design a career in biotechnology at a liberal arts level by reviewing the history and future of genetic engineering over the past 50 years since its inception. The main contents include circuit elements, circuit analysis methods, steady-state analysis, mutual inductance, and other conversion techniques for circuit analysis.
Year 2 │ Biochemistry
Describes the structure and chemical and biological properties of the basic biomaterials that make up cells and living things: amino acids, proteins, fatty acids and lipids, and carbohydrates genes, and their nutritional, physiological, and structural functions in living things (enzymes, cell membranes, nucleic acids, signal transduction, physiological regulation, etc.)
Year 3 │ Microbiome
Provides a basic understanding of the role of different microbial communities in interacting with plants and animals and how they can be utilized as biomaterials.
Year 4 │ Protein Engineering
This course covers the types, uses, and importance of enzymes as biomaterials for medical, health, food, environment, and various other industries, enzyme protein engineering techniques and applications, and industrial production techniques of useful substances using enzymes.
Academic Activities
Learning Communities
We run a learning community where students choose a topic, conduct a literature review or experiment under the guidance of a professor, and present it in the fall semester.
Advanced Research Labs
We host a lab program to experience a professor's lab
Major Tours
We run programs to visit bio-related companies to get real world experience
